Randall Abrahams is a South African radio and television personality best known as the ‘strict judge’ on the Mzansi Magic reality competition series Idols SA.

Early Life, Background And Childhood

Randall Abrahams was born on the 26 July 1969 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.  He matriculated at Harold Cressy High School. He studied at the University of Cape Town from 1988 to 1992, where he obtained Bachelor of Arts (Hons).

Randall Abrahams is married to Gabrielle Abrahams.


In 1992 he joined Good Hope FM as a programming assistant. He rose ranks to the station manager from 1994 – 1997. He moved to Johannesburg helping establish Yfm, a youth radio station, taking up the position of Station Manager, where he remained until 2002.

In 2000 he was the Deputy Chairperson of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), the industry body responsible for promoting the aims of the broadcasting sector. He held the position until 2001. From 2001-2003 he was Chairperson of the NAB.

He worked as the General Manager of Commercial Radio at the SABC from 2002 to 2006.

He is an independent consultant to the digital and PR industry. He has worked as a freelance journalist, contributing to publications such as Financial Mail, Tribute, Y Mag, Advantage and Blink.

In 2012 he joined Universal Music South Africa as the managing director. He helped complete the integration of EMI’s South African operation into Universal and played a lead part in developing the Kleek, a mobile streaming service launched by Universal with Samsung in Africa in 2013. In April 2016 he parted his ways with Universal Music.
