Dr May Mashego-Mkhize is married to Minister of Minister of Cooperative Governance and and Traditional Affairs Dr Zweli Mkhize. The couple has three children Nokulinda Horwood, Naledi Mkhize and Dedani Mkhize.
Dr. Mkhize holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery.
Dr Mkhize is a Board Member of the South African Women Entrepreneurs’ Network, as well as the Targeted Aids Intervention, and is a trustee of the Batho Batho Trust. She is currently self-employed as a Farmer of sugar cane and livestock.
Dr Mkhize’s previous appointments include: Provincial Chair for the National Progressive Primary Health Care Network and Chief Medical Officer EDH Paediatrics.
Drs Zweli and May Mkhize are the founders of Ikusasa LeAfrika Foundation (ILAF), a non-profit organisation based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal focusing on improving the livelihood of communities.
