Dr Tshepo Motsepe is the First Lady of Republic of South Africa; a position she has held since 15 February 2018. She is the wife of Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa.

Early Life , Background And Childhood

Dr Tshepo Lillette Motsepe was born in Soweto, Gauteng.


Tshepo Motsepe is married to Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of South Africa, with whom she has four children, namely Tumelo, Andile, Kiki and Mashudu Ramaphosa. Tshepo’s father is the late Chief Augustine Butana Chaane Motsepe, her brother is Patrice Motsepe, and her sisters are Rosette Veronica Motsepe, the 1976 Miss South Africa Beauty Pagent Winner and Bridgette Radebe and , the wife of African National Congress (ANC) politician and Minister of Energy, Jeff Radebe.


Tshepo Motsepe studied as a medical doctor at University of KwaZulu-Natal were she graduated with her MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) and went on to complete her Master of Public Health [MPH] in Maternal Child Health and Aging at Harvard School of Public Health. In 2012, she completed a Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Program (SECP) at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).


Dr Tshepo Motsepe is the current chairperson of the African Self Help Trust (ASHA Trust), focusing on Early Childhood Development and Education. Over the years, she has worked in both public and private practice in (Mmakau Village and Pretoria CBD). She worked in hospitals in South Africa (Bophelong Hospital, Mahikeng and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto) and Zimbabwe (Mutare, Chinhoyi, Harare and Parirenyatwa Hospitals). She’s a former Deputy Director of The Reproductive Health Research Institute.

Her services outside of medical practice include: Non-executive director – Wits Health Consortium, Board Member – HospiceWits (Hospice Association of the Witwatersrand), Patron – South African Civil Society for Women’s, Adolescents and Children’s Health (SACSoWACH), Served as Chairperson of Gauteng Health Department’s Accreditation Committee, Patron – Students Sponsorship Program (SSP), Former board member Vaal Reefs Disaster Trust, Former board member Kids Haven Foundation & Former Membership – National Medical and Dental Association.
